Guide to Torrents

Ok, so a few friends of mine have been asking me lately, "How do I use torrents, and what are they?" I figured, "Why not just go blog about it for everyone to read?" So here I am.

To start, Torrents are like a p2p(peer to peer) network. Basically it is people uploading a file or multiple files, such as software, music, videos, text documents, etc. That you can go and download for free. Note: Torrents can be consider pirating and illegal in some cases.

So now you know what they are, its time to get down to how to do it.
1. Download a torrent program such as BitTorrent. Personally I prefer Azureus BitTyrant.
2. Install the program onto your computer
3. Go to a site with torrents
4. Find what you want to download. For instance an album from a band.
5. There should be some download link around the site.
6. Click it and if your torrent program doesn't automatically open it find it in your programs to open it with.
7. Just wait for it to download and you're done.

Now its not just as easy as all that. When you're looking for what to download you want to look at how many seeds and how many leechers there are. The more seeds the better.
Leechers = The people who are downloading the file at the moment
Seeders = People who have already downloaded and are uploading the content for other people to download.
Another thing is that it is completely optional on whether or not you would like to seed but it really helps out the torrent community.

Well that's all there is too it. Happy Torrenting.

Peace
